Surround yourself with positive people. Grumpy, grouchy people are hard to be around and can affect both your mood and your health. Weed out the negativity by distancing yourself from those who cause you unnecessary stress or heartache. You’ve come much too far to let others pull you down with their nonsense.

In order to keep the signs of aging at bay, you need to avoid overeating and stuffing yourself until full. Do not starve yourself, but there is no better way to slow aging and extend life than cutting back on the calories. Just as a rule of thumb, avoid overeating in any situation.

Have regular eye exams. As you get older, you have to start paying special attention to the health of your eyes, which may be new for you if you have never worn glasses. Reduced eye function can decrease your independence and make it hard to do things you used to do, so have a doctor examine them regularly.

You need to make sure your eyes have adequate protection as you age. The eye ages along with every other part of your body. Protect your eyes against ultraviolet radiation by wearing sunglasses with a high UV rating every time you leave the house. Regular drugstore sunglasses are acceptable only if they contain a high UV rating.

The most prevalent cause of hearing loss is aging. Hearing loss is also insidious. It happens so gradually that a person may be hard of hearing without realizing it. If you have not had your hearing tested, you should have a hearing checkup at least by the age of 50.

A great way to slow the aging process and keep feeling young is to make health your hobby. Try keeping a journal of the foods you eat and evaluate it at the end of the week to see how healthy you are eating and work on not only eating better but eating properly for a longer life.

Drink a lot of water as you age. Tap water is not the best water to consume as there can be harmful toxins that promote the growth of free radicals. Try investing in a tap water filter or a drinking water dispenser for your home. This will give you healthy water to sip on all day long. Staying hydrated is very important while aging as dehydration can lead to a myriad of health issues.

Just because you are aging does not mean you need to feel old. By following the simple advice in this article, you can be sure that you will look and feel younger than your peers of the same age. Enjoy life by feeling younger and make sure your golden years are truly your best.

Getting your first pair of pointe shoes is a memory not soon forgotten. From the first blisters to the spotlight at the recital, your shoes will carry you to fulfill your dancing dreams.

It is important to have your pointe shoes fitted by someone who understands the shoe’s purpose and the dancer’s body’s demands. Be certain to ask about the credentials of the person doing your fitting, especially if you have concerns about their understanding of your needs.

When you go in for your fitting, bring thin socks or tights to wear in order to keep the shoes clean and create an accurate fit. Ask your teacher if she has any shoe preferences and any padding suggestions. Understand the demands that will be on your shoes by knowing the number of classes per week that you will be taking on pointe and the duration of those classes. Call ahead for an appointment whenever possible to insure individualized service.

Once you find the shoes you like, test them. Take them off, walk around for a few minutes, and then try them on again. If they still feel right to you and look right to your teacher or fitting professional, chances are you have found your best starting shoe.

If you have any concerns, considering taking the shoes in to your teacher for a second opinion. Ask about the exchange policy before purchasing the shoes. If you are getting a second opinion, wear clean tights while trying on the shoes and use a clean towel over the floor. Do not bend, crush, or otherwise try to break in the shoes until you are certain you want to keep them.

Above all, enjoy the experience. To this day I look back with a smile on my face to the time when I bought my first pair of pointe shoes. It is a joy that brings with it new challenges and experiences that will help you to grow as a dancer.
